Over 12,000 women injured by birth control pills Yaz and Yasmin (and the similar drug, Ocella) have filed lawsuits against Bayer, alleging that these contraceptives cause dangerous blood clot side effects that Bayer failed to adequately warn of. Plaintiffs have also alleged that Bayer engaged in misleading advertising regarding the drugs’ potential benefits while knowing that the risks outweighed any possible benefits from using Yaz or Yasmin.

Because of the large number of injuries from Yaz and Yasmin, courts have consolidated many of these actions into multi-district litigation (MDL). Unlike claims in class action suits, MDL claims are still handled on an individual basis. This can result in higher individual awards than those often received in class actions and enables plaintiffs to choose their own lawyers.

Yaz and Yasmin have been linked to serious blood clot injuries caused by drospirenone, the synthetic form of progestin used to make the drugs. If you have suffered a blood clot leading to deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism, or stroke, you may be entitled to compensation from Bayer. To learn if you can be included in current Yaz and Yasmin settlements, contact an experienced drug injury lawyer as soon as possible. Hiring a lawyer experienced in going up against large pharmaceutical companies is important in these complex federal drug litigation cases.

Bayer settled at least 10,000 claims for approximately $1.8 billion and reserved funds for additional settlements. (The company indicated that it was only settling lawsuits arising out of blood clot injuries caused by these drugs.)

A Yaz or Yasmin settlement can help to compensate you for your:

  • pain and suffering
  • lost wages
  • medical bills
  • hospital costs, and
  • continued treatment for blood clot injuries

Feldman & Pinto no longer handles Yaz and Yasmin cases.
